History
Spex was one of several Coalition members who were loaned to the crime lord Ruk van Duff in order to bolster van Duff's crime network.
To Save the World
After the invasion of the Technax Armada, Ruk van Duff's lieutenants were summoned to Van Duff Manor; Firebrand invited Spex to accompany him as his personal bodyguard. When Mr. Mystery revealed that Ruk van Duff was dead and offered the crime lord's organization places in the Coalition, Spex's services were transferred back to the Coalition.
Relationship to Other Characters
Spex is ultimately loyal to the ideals of the Coalition - that SuperHumans are superior to powerless humans, and that the strong are the rightful rulers of the weak. It is the ideals he follows, not the organization or its leaders; he would gladly attempt to take down even Mr. Mystery if he believed that the Coalition founder was betraying the Coalition.
This mindset can cause Spex to clash with Coalition members who are more self-centered or less serious about the Coalition's goals. Despite any quarrels he may end up causing, he is still an effective member of the Coalition and is often trusted with important tasks.
